China had big influences on Korea, Vietnam, and Japan. All three of the countries adopted the Cinese culture. The Chinese writing system was one of them, although it was adapted to their own needs. Vietnam, Korea, and Japan also borrowed Chinese styles of painting, music and architecture. Korea and Japan borrowed to layout of the Tang capital at Chang'an to model after their own capital as well.
These neightboring countries also borrowed ways of government. They all formed governments based on Confucian ideas. The influence of Confucian ideas was especially strong in Korea.
Religion also spread to Korea and Japan. Buddhism arrived in Korea in the AD 300s. From there, it moved to Japan.
Korea, Vietnam, and Japan also borrowed Chinese culinary arts. Culinary arts are skills involved in cooking and fod preparation. These three neighboring countries also borrowed tools to cook food from the Chinese. These tools were chopsticks and the wok. Chopsticks can not only be used for cooking, but also for eating. A wok is a large round-bottomed pan which was used for frying and steaming foods. These countries also borrowed the custom of drinking tea. As you can see, China had huge influences on these three countries in culture, government, religion, and cookign and eating ways. |
