| Fuel Filter and Water Separator |
|
Definition
A water separator with a translucent cup (Figure 3-5) is located under the engine cover on the port side, forward, of each engine and, by means of a red ring float, provides a visual indication of water in the fuel. Excess water also sets off a buzzer at the console and a flashing indicator on the speedometer. The water separator should be emptied and cleaned when excessive water is present. A low pressure fuel filter is mounted inside the translucent cup. The filter is a disposable cartridge style filter and should be replaced periodically in accordance with the AB-S maintenance schedule. |

| Reference (a) limits the towing capacity of the AB-S to one displacement ton (for urgent SAR only). The “for urgent SAR only” caveat was meant to apply only to towing of other vessels and was not intended to limit the asset from performing ATON operations for which it was designed. Although the AB-S is rated for towing vessels up to one displacement ton, current ATON towing best practice is to tow only fifth class and smaller sized buoys and corresponding sinkers. This capability will be further evaluated and included in Revision A to Reference (a). |
